This graphics card is built with Intel Clear Video technology, which delivers clearer, more detailed images by eliminating many of the jagged edges and video artifacts seen when viewing interlaced content and features powerful color control to ensure videos are not too dark, overly bright, or washed out. Offering the latest in ultra-low voltage processing power, the single-core Intel Pentium SU2700 has a has a power consumption rating of just 10 watts and a 1.3 GHz speed that's paired with a fast 800 MHz front-side bus (FSB) and 2 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.) Designed for use in ultra-thin laptops to balance the competing needs of high performance with battery consumption, the Pentium SU2700 features Intel SpeedStep technology, helping your system to dynamically adjust processor voltage and core frequency to decrease power consumption and heat production. It also comes with built-in Execute Disable Bit technology, which helps keep your laptop safe from viruses, worms, and other malicious attacks. | A Multi-Gesture Touchpad allows you to pinch, flick and swirl your fingers across the touchpad for more natural photo and video viewing as well as intuitive navigation of websites. The Timeline family of notebooks also includes a backup button that lets you easily select and protect your irreplaceable digital files through regular scheduled backups or on an as-needed basis. Data can be backed up to an external hard drive, flash card, thumb drive or to a secure hidden partition on their PC. While most notebooks with long battery life use higher cell batteries which protrude from the back of the notebook, Acer combined numerous low power components with a standard high-capacity 6-cell battery, allowing them to keep the design as small as possible. In addition, a conveniently located PowerSmart button located above the keyboard allows you to easily extend battery life. A simple press of the button activates the advanced power savings settings, traditionally a tedious procedure accessed through numerous software-based steps. This one-button approach simplifies the process. Lastly, an Acer PowerSmart adapter senses when the notebook is unplugged, and stops sending needless energy. It also stops pulling power from the wall outlet when the adapter is full. The PowerSmart adapter saves 1752 watts of energy a year--equivalent to lighting a 15-watt (65W equivalent) light bulb for 116 days. Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit version) is the operating system for users with advanced computer needs, and it includes all of the Windows Media Center capabilities for turning your PC into an all-in-one home entertainment center for watching DVD movies and accessing your digital audio library. You can also use Windows Media Center to record and watch your favorite TV shows (even HDTV) and to access new kinds of online entertainment content. Computers that include Windows Vista Home Premium and an auxiliary Windows SideShow display will also allow you to access key data even when your computer is off. It is also easier than ever to share files between other PCs in your household and to manage your laptop computer settings to more securely connect via Wi-Fi. Every edition of Windows Vista provides the essential tools and technologies to help protect you whether you are browsing the Internet, connecting to a wireless network, or just reading e-mail. All editions of Windows Vista include new tools that can warn you of impending hardware failures long before you have lost any important personal data. And, all Windows Vista editions include parental control features that allow you to manage and monitor your family's use of games, the Internet, instant messaging, and other activities.

Great laptop ! February 27, 2010 Denver Warner (Canada) Great computer for the price just a few cons.
1.keyboard buttons are awesome i really do like but they are black so needed lights for a better use.
2.Can not get 8 hrs from the battery i try everything they said to maximize battery life but the best is 4.5hrs as a regular notebook which sucks for this is the main reason i selected this.
These are the only two major issues for me.
pros.
-love the colour and the metal casing on the display back.
-watch a few HD and Blu-ray movies and i must admit the display is amazing, crystal clear and bright..WOW!!
-runs quitely and just seems to never get hot ..never nice piece of tech. whatever that is.
-got a free upgrade from Acer to windows 7.Runs a little smoother after the upgrade.
-Amazing touch pad
-4 USB ports
-Card reader.
-loud speakers
-ok webcam not the best software for the cam also.
Have this for 4 months now and i'm happy with it the price was a little bit less than it is now but does quite enough for the price just wish the keyboard had lights.
worth the price I paid January 4, 2010 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Wanted a low priced laptop for home use (internet/netflix/word procecssor). No gaming or heavy video use.
Looked extensively on the net and read all the reviews on tons of laptops. Found the AS5810TZ-4274 and purchased it for
$399.00 thru price matching (not from amazon).
After using this laptop for a week, I am very impressed with this model. Although not a powerful
laptop, it does everything I need. It is designed for low power consumption, not performance.
Vista run just fine. Have not had any problems, but looking forward to Windows 7.
SU2700 CPU, 3GB RAM, 4 USB ports, HDMI/VGA port, 10/100/100 ethernet, wireless ABGN, webcam, Vista Home Premium, 15.6 LED screen, 320GB drive.
Things I like:
- LED Screen is crisp/clear
- Performance is decent, have not had any major slows downs when running apps
- NetFlix video streams are fast. No delays - video is crisp/clear
- GoogleMaps display is clear
- Power managament programs really help save battery life
- Laptop NEVER gets warm/hot, even when I run it all day. Battery lasts forever.
- Very lite/thin
- Haven't tried the webcam yet, but nice to have it already installed
- Monitor hinges are strong/sturdy
Things I don't Like:
- WiFi LED always blinks. (annoying)
- Keyboard keys are flat. Your fingers tend to slip and accidently press adjacent key
- I wish the video chip was a bit stronger (not a major issue though) (my older laptop has the ATI chip with 256MB onboard)
Tips:
- Always set the system and harddrive password via the BIOS setup
- You can make your own recovery CD/DVD from the desktop program. Requires 14 CDs or 2 DVDs. Or, you can order from ACER for $20.00.
- Actually, recovery CD is free. Just email ACER support and tell them you want a recovery CD at no charge.
- Upgrade to Windows 7 is a free upgrade, but this will expire soon.
- Uninstall some of the bloatware programs. (i.e. trial games)
- ACER website has al the BIOS and driver updates. Make sure you update the BIOS.
- Tons of Microsoft updates for Vista. If you plan to update to Windows 7,may want to wait on the updates and just install Windows 7.
Overall, very happy that I purchased this model and considering purchasing another for my wife.
This is not an Acer..it can't be. Acer stopped making quality laptops a long time ago! January 4, 2010 T. Pham I've had my Acer Aspire 5810TZ (Timeline Series) for about 2-3 months now. Honestly, I was on a budget so I couldn't go for an XPS or a Vaio. Ultimately, I love almost EVERYTHING about this laptop. I know it's been outside of its box not too long ago but so far it's been great! The only downside is that the keyboard is a DUST MAGNET! Everything else is solid; only the optic drive and the chicklet-style keyboard seems a bit flimsy. Hardware-wise, it's amazing! It's basic but powerful enough to run quake 3 engine games as well as multiple programs at once. I'm also a photographer and I should be using a Macbook Pro (as everyone says -______-) but I can do photo-editing (Lightroom and/or Ps) that's just as slick and lag-free on my 5810TZ.
But the deal-breaker for me was the fact that it's EXTREMELY SLIM (5.3lbs = portability) and its VERY handsome :) I love the fact that it has FOUR USB ports..a HUGE plus for me! The Orange/Blue LED behind the touchpad (right above the card reader) finishes the whole sleek, sexy look of the 5810TZ. As well as the other features such as 8+ hours (I use graphic-heavy software so I usually get around 5-6 but that doesn't matter because I rarely leave my place without its charger), 16:9 LED screen = FULL SCREEN MOVIES and bright graphics..could be sharper though, and Thermal-Cooling (ONE OF THE COOLEST FEATURES I'VE EVER SEEN!)..The laptop is NEVER hot. The bottom is a tad bit warm at its max but never hot. And the cool thing is you can FEEL it working..you can FEEL the warmer air being fanned out of the vents on the sides..a beautiful thing :)
Overall..I love this laptop. There was nothing better than this in the Micro Center in Rockville, MD for $500. Well..there was a Toshiba and an HP with better specs/hardware for $500 but they were fat, ugly, and heavy. Portability was of utmost importance to me so call me crazy but at least I don't strain/complain when I carry mine around >=P and people ask me about it all the time..asking me if this really was an Acer because it's so sleek and well-built! Good luck on your laptop shopping though! Just wanted you guys to know that I haven't regretted mine yet (knock on wood) and that as of now I think I'm pretty far from it :)
Word of advice: A lot of reviewers like/tend to be more critical than necessary. For example, people say that this computer is just downright slow. False. Pentium processors used to be the pinnacle technological advancement until duo cores came about. Don't lower the expectations of others just because you want the best knowing all too well that it's more than enough to get the job done SO IT WILL get the job done. As long as you don't fill the the laptop with junk and scan it every now and then you'll be perfectly content. Now unless you're a gamer..you've heard the others: this isn't a gaming platform. I couldn't play America's Army at all! Call of duty (the first one) was SUPERB! Halo: Combat Evolved was good, not great. Soo..just a word of advice haha.
excellent laptop! December 5, 2009 Nina Mentges This is an excellent laptop for the money! They sell one exactly like this one for about $120 to $150 more with Windows7; don't waste your money on that because you can get a FREE UPGRADE to Windows7 if you purchase it before Jan 31, 2010! The mousepad special features perform wonderfully and accurately. The mousepad is positioned in just the right place and has just the right amount of sensitivity for tapping. The battery does not last quite the 8 hours - more like 6 - but then again, I did not do the battery conditioning at first like you're supposed to ... I wish I did ... that probably makes the difference. This laptop freezes up whenever coming out of sleep mode ... I don't know for sure, but I think it might be a Vista issue ... I guess I'll find out soon enough as my Windows7 should arrive shortly. The computer performs beautifully, except for the aforementioned (as long as I don't let it enter sleepmode, I have no performance issues). One more thing, the sound (set at 100%) is very low when you play a dvd movie. I can't find any settings to adjust or change it, so I have to hook up speakers.
Perfect fit for me. November 17, 2009 borntodance This laptop has worked great for me. It is also very light weight and that really helps. Nothing but great things to say. I did follow the instructions of the other users and deleted the multitude of free games softwares before I started using this unit.
